ALANG BEACH, GUJARAT, INDIA. JANUARY 15, 1993 : The Indian beach of Alang, is the largest ship wrecking yard in the world as dozens of the world's discarded ships can be seen in various stages of dismemberment along the 3 mile stretch sheltering over 80 scrap metal recycling companies. Workers come from all corners of India to find work in Alang. The labor is grueling, dangerous and intoxicating... 70 hours a week attacking giant tankers with acetylene torches, carrying tons of steel on their shoulders. (photo Jean-Marc Giboux)
